Tumblr took the digital and social media world by storm in 2011, and its success shows no signs of diminishing. Until last year, Tumblr was just another social networking website off the map, but has since grown into a platform of over 39.5 million blogs. Founded in 2007 by CEO David Karp, Tumblr centers around the young, hip crowd of high school and college students who account for over 50% of Tumblr’s users. At the Digital Life Design conference in Munich this week, Karp revealed future plans regarding product development, revenue, and staff size. Last time Tumblr revealed its numbers was in September 2011 which reflected a 218% increase in page views — from 2 billion up to 13 billion. Tumblr plans to increase its efforts in reaching users located outside the United States. About 40-45% of Tumblr’s users reside in the United States.
